Bank Muamalat Malaysia was founded in 1999. It was established as the merging result of asset and liabilities of three Malaysian local banks that comply to Shariah law: BBMB Kewangan, Bank of Commerce Malaysia, and Bank Bumiputra Malaysia.
As of the recent, it provides Shariah-based banking products and services through its subsidiaries: Local Muamalat Nominees, Foreign Muamalat Nominees, Muamalat Venture, and Muamalat Invest. Based in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, there are 63 offices of Bank Muamalat branches in Malaysia, 1 offshore banking service office branch in Labuan, and 4 currency exchange outlets.
In the span of 30 years, Bank Muamalat Malaysia provides both Shariah compliant banking and conventional banking system. It is the second completely-established Islamic Bank in Malaysia, only after Bank Islam Malaysia.
