- Turn on your new unifi router. Then, connect it to your computer be it using a Wi-Fi connection or as classic as using an Ethernet cable.
If you decide to use an Ethernet cable, make sure to attach it to your computer’s LAN port. For Wi-Fi connection, typically the Wi-Fi name and password will be written on a label on the router. Basically, you can use mobile phone to setup your router, but that’ll be much easier to set your router using a desktop.
- Using an internet browser, proceed to access the router configuration page.
Launch your internet browser app, then go to tplinkwifi.net, or simply type this IP address: 192.168.0.1
- As you reach the page, you’ll be prompted to create administrator (admin) password. Make sure to write this password somewhere. You may still need this administrator password in the future.
- Pick your time zone. For Malaysia, it’s GMT +8.0. This is required since the router need to show the time correctly.
- Next, choose the type of your internet connection.
In this step, you will need to indicate which ISP you are using. So, your internet connection will work properly. That said, this is what you should set:
- Choose PPPOE for the internet connection type.
- Then, on menu Additional ISP Settings, click on the down arrow button to expand the settings.
- Make sure to pick Malaysia-Unifi as your ISP profile.
- Continue by setting your PPPOE username as well as its password.

For this step of how to setup unifi router, you should write down the PPPOE username and its password that you’ve got from the ISP. - Your setup is now complete. You can check your setup by connecting your device to the network. Use the password that you’ve just created not the admin password.
